We live in Northern Baltimore County, Maryland, affectionately known as the "Hereford Zone."
Having grown up on a working farm, aminals have always been a part of my life. Since I don't have 100's of acres, I have had to downsize my ideas, and animals.
A few years ago I fell in love with a Nigerian Dwarf Goat at the Montgomery County Fair. That winter I did some research on the breed and decided that I wanted a pair. I now have a pair: Daisy and Rosie. They are such sweeties. They love people and will curl up in my lap whenever given the chance. I am expecting babies Spring 09. I also plan to begin making cheese from their milk. I can't wait.
Different types of fowl were always around the farm. I loved going out to the hen house for eggs every day. SO, I have a few laying hens, known as "the girls." They love running about the yard, and will follow me in hopes of getting worms.
The species I haven't gone small with is canine. I love big dogs. I have Bernese Mountain Dogs. They are wonderful. I also have a german shepherd and golden retriever which have been trained for search, rescue and recovery. My golden and I have been on countless searches over the years, including recovery work post 9-11 at the Pentagon. I am hoping to add either a minature donkey or small pony to my menagerie soon.
